Great blog, Steve. I can relate to a lot of that.

Wonderfully written blog, Steve. Despite having an impressively awful personal worst (left hamstring cramping starting at mile 14), reading your blog reminded me of the reasons I keep going back to Boston.

Thanks jomo, Frank.

I can see why it’s an itch you would want to keep scratching.

I'll be seeking redemption for my Boston crash-and-burn at the Buffalo Marathon (near Niagara Falls) on May 26. Ever the optimist, I hope through a strengthening and stretching regime to overcome the left hamstring cramping problem that destroyed my Boston time.

Frank you must have been right beside me somewhere as I finished 4:08. You didn't see a sweaty Scotsman (blue saltire vest) trying to puke at the finish line did you?!

Enjoying your blog Steve - was a tough day for me, but loved the course and the support was amazing. And whole of USA seems to be in awe of Boston marathon finishers, which is lovely! :-) G

Cheers Happy. Yes, Boston certainly fools us into thinking we’re even faintly important doesn’t it?! I loved that too.

Very best wishes for Buffalo, Frank. It would be great if you’d post the outcome here👊

Ooh, we went through Buffalo on our way up to Niagara on our hols Frank. Is it a flat, PB-able course? Good luck.

Steve, your blog brought a wee tear to my glass eye! Great report and well done again on a stonking time. And you make me feel better that it really was rather hot in the end, and humid, wasn't it, after the crazy thunderstorms from the morning. :-) G

Happy - thanks again and I’m with you 100%. Unless “you were there” no one knows or cares, fair enough! No doubt in my mind that Boston this year and London last year are my two “best” times, regardless of what the clock says.

HappyG, I can't say that I did see you, but I did see a runner getting set to puke at the finish line. If it was you, you had very good form..., slight bend in the knees, arms akimbo, bend at hips, aiming away from the runners. Well done. Steve and Happy: Buffalo Marathon course looks relatively flat. I will post my result here, unless it is another futile effort, in which case no one will hear a peep about it.

Very best of luck at Buffalo Frank. I was over 4 hours remember. Once I got to train station I had excellent form - managed to miss the platform and only get it on the tracks, despite oncoming trains! :-) G
