Finished BTCGC - it's quite odd! Will review shortly. Watling Street has been collected from the library and I started it on the journey home. |

I am not reading "Watling Street", but rather H.G.Wells' "The First Men In The Moon", which in chapter 1 starts off set in a place called Lympne in Kent, and includes the following: "It was the big port of England in Roman times, Portus Lemanus, and now the sea is four miles away. All down the steep hill are boulders and masses of Roman brickwork, and from it old Watling Street, still paved in places, starts like an arrow to the north." |

I found a misshelved book in the library yesterday. I was looking for a Jeff Vandermeer book in sci-fi and found Vertigo instead. It's the French thriller the film is based on. Decided it was a sign so I took it out. Also found a bargain on Kindle, an omnibus of Josephine Tey books for 99p! |

Excellent finds. I finished Babel yesterday. Thank you to whoever recommended it. I'm a bit lost now. I have a lot of non-fiction that I've started or that is on my Kindle but none of it speaks to me.

That's the book I'm reading at the moment. I got to a chapter where I thought 'Linds would like this' where some professor describes the methods and challenges of translation. It was a bit like your recent blog on the subject LindsD. Otherwise though I can't say I'm enjoying it much. It picked up a bit when it got to that point but it's currently dangling over the DNF pile. I feel whacked in the face by the 'colonialism is bad' message. Yes, I know! Every single white character seems to be a moustache-twirling cad. |

It's true. I really enjoyed the Oxford bits and the translation bits but felt it lost its way towards the end. Which doesn't bode well for you....
