Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

My eldest daughter is in the vicinity of Foyles on Charing Cross Road. I suspect she and her boyfriend might be going down Denmark Street.

I finished The Miracle of Castel di Sangro last night. It was worth persevering with in the end though I tended to skim read a lot of the 'match report' passages.

Out of interest, I just looked up Gabriele Gravina, who plays a pretty important if shadowy part in the book. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised to see that he's been the President of the Italian Football Federation since 2018 :-(

Reading Merlin Sheldrake's "Entangled Life". Non-fiction; about fungi. Full of the "wow" factor.

I’m reading Raynor Winn’s The Wild Silence, the follow-up to The Salt Path. I know that there were many questions raised over how far the truth was stretched in what was supposedly a memoir, but I mostly enjoyed it for it being an account of two people in extremis walking their problems away on the SWCP. What I didn’t like was the trying-too-hard nature writing which felt forced and insincere.

The Wild Silence fills in the gaps in Raynor and Moth’s background and relationship and also brings us up to to date with their situation at the time of writing. So far there is too much backstory, too much at one with nature and the elements and not enough SWCP for me, but I appreciate I have quite specific requirements. I suspect Raynor and Moth are both quite irritating people.
