I started Elmet a couple of days ago. Really enjoying it. I didn't know if it would work as a treadmill book (I usually read something like a McDermid), but it's not too heavy to read and walk at the same time. I have been staying on the treadmill longer to finish a chapter.

Er, I should point out that I mean *mentally* heavy, not physically. I read on a Kindle on a tall stand.

How are you doing that? Are you kindling it or holding the pages open or something? Oh, or audiobooking it?

😃 You know when you write something and it's only when you've read after posting it, you realise there was something completely obvious to you which you *maybe* should have pointed out...

Years ago, I read a book about a couple that bought a wreck of a cottage somewhere in North Wales (I think) to live the good life. This was long before it was a trendy thing to do. I’ve no idea what it was called, or who it was by. The only detail I remember was the husband considered the bicycle the finest means of transport available and one of man’s finest inventions. I’d love to read it again. I know it was the title that drew me in in the first place, but I can’t be sure…
The Hovel On The Hill is coming into my mind. Anyone else recall something along these lines?

Blimey, I was right: Hovel In The Hills, by Elizabeth West. I don’t know how I dragged that out of my memory. I think it was 40 years ago at least I borrowed it from the library.
