Finished Hamnet, found it a real slog. Disappointed as I loved her first book but none of her others have come close.
I've now bought They and I'll start that tomorrow.

Haven't started They yet. I did try today in a coffee shop but it was just too noisy to concentrate. I'm on leave this week so I don't have my normal commute time to read.
In other news I finished The Searcher and sadly it was a disappointing read for me. I couldn't connect to the characters or the setting and I found some of the plot points farfetched. I know there is a massive plot point in her previous work that annoyed virtually everyone but in that book I thought it just about worked. Hopefully I'll enjoy whatever she writes next more

I don't think either of her post Dublin Murders books have been anywhere near as good as those but I liked The Searcher better than THe Wych Elm.

I preferred The Wych Elm, I'm coming to the conclusion that I prefer books with not-so-nice narrators!

Raffo is with you Little N. I wasn’t beyond ‘ok’ with both. There was one over used plot thing in The Searcher that annoyed me, near the end.

And I stalled a third of the way through with Hamnet (but it hasn’t made its way to Linds yet).

I'm struggling with The Miracle of Castel di Sangro. I'm not very interested in the footballing side, I haven't warmed to Joe the author and I'd like to hear more about the family who own the club. Perhaps the second half will pick up.

I’ve got a ticket to see Andy Miller talking to Gwendoline Riley about her book “My Phantoms” at Foyles on May 17th.
Quite excited

Started a book called “Prefab Boy”, by Gregory Holyoake. about growing up in Kent during the 1950s. A charity shop find, I notice it’s been signed by the author. Some charming descriptions of an ordinary child’s early memories so far.
