They can also set the trackers to track at lesser intervals to improve battery life iirc
We were trying to decide if we could smell chips on Saturday night in the CP or if it was just wishful thinking. FnC went down very nicely on the Hardmoors 110 and on one of the NYD 30s.

In update news John has just left Troutbeck after a 3 hour sleep. He was struggling with staying awake late last night so hopefully that will reset him. By my calculations he is now 9.5 hours behind his schedule and 7.5 hours ahead of James.
So as Day 3 heads to conclusion he hasn't really gained on James in the last 24 hours but has lost 5-6 hours to his own schedule. In terms of breaking the record that's actually not a bad day IMHO. It's 'mid-race' and he's not blown, he's moving as fast as the previous record just not as fast as he hoped but the finish line is starting to hove into view. Plus some of the deficit to his own schedule should go after Martindale as that was where the Troutbeck sleep was originally planned.
I'm thinking the next 24 hours will be the decider. If the situation versus the record is as good or better tomorrow morning he's likely to be heading back to the US having left behind a very substantial record.

Great summary FF
Reading the updates this morning it seems that the support team for the Kentmere leg weren't in position and he scooted straight through, the guy on the previous leg carried on with him. Now scrambling to intercept him.

A couple of the support team have got supplies for him at Gatesgarth. Hopefully they will have found clean water enroute to keep him hydrated.

It doesn’t look like it’s slowed him down against the FKT trophy. Not sure about against his schedule. But from a quick glance it looks like he’s made time up against the trophy.

The latest reworking of the schedule with the current best estimates of where and when John will have his breaks is giving a finish time of 10.48 on Saturday, 48 mins outside the 5 day barrier. That would take 23 hours and 1 minute off the existing record. However, I suspect if it really starts to look that close John and all around him will do everything they can over the last half day or so to ensure those 48 mins disappear!
