That’s two amazing runs - they did the Cape Wrath FKT together last year.

Is Jasmin (15:24) 4th fastest ? Found a thread on the FRA forums from a few years back which gives Mark Hartell 14:54 and Stuart Bland 14:56

Just seen the vid of Damian finishing PW. He unfurled a multicoloured XR flag. This, I like.

I think that's 4th on the all time list. Didn't Rob Jebb do a 14.30? Jasmin was 6th I think before this (Killian, Billy, Rob, Mark, Stuart, Jasmin I think). Unless I've missed someone who's thrown in a low profile v.fast one. And to think less than 15 years ago 17.15 would put you in the top 5.

Is it training, kit, shoes, knowledge of lines or what do you think ff?

As a % it's a big jump in 15 years

RH I think largely it's the pyramid effect. Ultra running has grown beyond belief in the UK (and everywhere else to be fair) over the last 15 years. The increased participation has pushed performances in what was a pretty niche area of running, certainly more than 20 years ago. Add in FITC (which was published in 2004) to give the BG publicity that it never previously had (and that's a double edged sword for discussion elsewhere) and you've got some seriously good athletes (at world level) coming to have a crack it. For many years the BG was something most fell runners did late in their racing careers when they could no longer contend in races, now you've got the likes of Beth and Killian who can contend in the world's biggest ultra races coming at their peak. And you're seeing a lot of younger British runners take it on much earlier as well. All the other stuff you mention helps as well. They've all improved. But as was seen with the sub 4 minute mile belief also plays a huge part (Bannister's record lasted only a few weeks IIRC and later the same year I think 3(?) peoplebroke the barrier in a single race). Once someone has seen a peer run fast they believe they can do it do, expectation is lifted.
