Just under 21 hours for Darren. I imagine that will be a very popular and deserved result.

So, I didn't manage to get up Yewbarrow by any route Much too much of a scaredy-cat to climb anything I can't see more than the bottom 20% of. I did take the dog for a wander on Monday morning and found the gate with the "private" sign on, and there had been enough rain by then to see the stream to cut diagonally left to and follow - but at the top of that field there looked to be a shiny, fairly new fence filling in the gaps of the broken wall and I decided that was a good enough excuse not to give the climb a go. For future reference (hoping to get back to Wadale at the end of the month) is there an easy way through the wall/fence? onto the fell proper? |

There’s a small stile. From the ‘Private’ gate head about a third-left uphill and it becomes obvious

I’ve not been up there for several years but the stile used to feel rickety (especially after 16 hours of being out on the fells ;))

It was the 6th Anniversary of my successful BGR over the weekend, so to sort of mark the occasion I volunteered to run a support leg on an attempt. Did leg 2 overnight (it was a 9pm start) and conditions were truly horrible, it made it all the more relevant for me really. Sometimes it's good to be reminded how bloody difficult the BG is. Navigation was very tricky in near zero visibility, I hadn't been over leg 2 for a couple of years and was relying on memory for the most part. Had a bit of a hiccup going out to Watson's and Dollywaggon was difficult to find, but other than that we more or less nailed it. Dawn started to come as we were coming down Fairfield, grim morning but it was fitting

Good work NE I’ve been right badly and I’m at home recovering. A plumber we got in to do a job saw our certificates on the landing yesterday and was well impressed. Then I’ve been chatting with Sam (Stef’s younger son) about mountaineering, running etc so I have too been in reminiscent mood |

I had a nice message from a fellow FE user yesterday who's been reading this thread and wondered if I had heard of the Joss Naylor Challenge? I said I had and that both myself and FF of this 'ere parish had done it JK - blog here: fetcheveryone.com/blog/11778/2017/6 There are some pics floating around of FF getting his tankard from Joss a few weeks back, we should really post them here. |
