Daughter's top tip for cookies is to use burnt butter (ie butter which has been heated until it's turned a golden brown). Re a festive cake, I was thinking perhaps an orange and polenta or almond cake (Nigella has good recipes) - seasonal with the oranges but maybe not festive enough? This caught my eye for the inclusion of cardamom theguardian.com though I would find the ganache too much - thinking to try it as a tray bake instead, on a smaller scale. |

Made these brownies on Sunday: leitesculinaria.com Didn't use the espresso powder. Also downsized the tablespoon of vanilla extract to a teaspoon - I balked at that large a quantity of the stuff. It specifies "Dutch-processed cocoa powder" but I just used the Tesco bog-standard stuff and it was fine. Used milk choc chips in it, so it wasn't vegan. They are yummy, went down a treat at work on Monday. I love the "just put boiling water on the chocolate" method, none of your fannying about putting it in a bowl over a pan of water. |

Lemon drizzle. It's gone to an Eid celebration so I won't get to taste it. Salmon and watercress quiche. For my Mum tomorrow. |

I hope the lemon drizzle is appreciated Linds. I like quiche. Need to start making gf pastry again, haven't done it for years as MiL is good at it (apart from a tendency to very thick bottoms. ![]() |
