Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tastes good but doesn’t hold together (never made flapjack before)
Have chopped up and frozen so I can have bits every now and then
The dates were hand chopped and too big for a start
I’ll make again …. Tips anyone?!

It's either the baking time or not having pressed them down enough Pix. Mine have held together perfectly. Made another batch yesterday and reduced the butter by 25g and they are not in the slightest bit crumbly. Did you press them down again when they first came out of the microwave too then leave to cool before marking into pieces and not turn them out until totally cool? I hand chop the dates too - using a pair of scissors is easiest. I probably cut an average size date into eight pieces - halved then each half quartered.

I nuked until the middle was bubbling? 3mins

I pressed down with the spatula I used to put the mixture into the silicone square dish. And I admit it wasn’t fully cold when I tried to cut!
It’s mainly in the freezer now, ready to eat as needed it’s yummy. I’m thinking cinnamon and ginger next time

Glad you liked it. Try using the bottom of a glass to press it down next time, the firmer the better, and try to resist turning it out until it's fully cooled. :-) I do an initial cut in the tin after about twenty minutes cooling but don't actually separate it until it's cold if that makes sense?
