Like Roo, I think it is because it is uncomfortable for me to look into strangers' eyes which means I don't see their whole face (for some reason I seem to be fairly fine with close friends or people I have known for a very long time). A trick with remembering a new person's name is to say their name 3 times in quick succession in a conversation, although with a lot of other things to concentrate on at the same time that may not be easy.

halfpint Aug 2021 8:08pm, 22 Aug 2021 35,522 posts	0 halfpint It’s not uncommon for people with autism to struggle with this. I personally tend to struggle when someone is out of context which suggests I’m using other cues.

I hardly watch dramas because I can't tell who's who and, unless I'm about to find out whodunnit and why, I'm not interested in people's lives. If I see a child I have taught out of school, I sometimes recognise the fact that I have taught them but couldn't tell you when - or who they are.

jelly (limegreenjelly) Aug 2021 8:22pm, 24 Aug 2021 1,214 posts	0 jelly (limegreenjelly) Maddox is in the middle of ‘assessment’ I asked for a referral July 2019, seen for a short meeting with autism dr July 2020. He referred to speech and language who saw him in July this year. We will now be waiting for the dr to visit him in school as that’s also what he said he wanted to do! I waited 18 months for my assessment!
