I had another prolonged coughing fit and a kind of weird semi-dream (as I must have been half-awake). Even by dream standards it made little sense but it took a bit of time after to reassure myself that I was lying safely one mattress, in my bedroom; and not some growing multi-mattress pile somewhere outside towards London.

I thought I was a shoe-in and the only other candidates were no-hopers. At the last minute, a fourth candidate arrived. He was very switched on and ticked a lot of diversity boxes. He was quite hostile towards me and and shook my confidence. He was called in before me and I sat waiting getting increasingly nervous. Far too late I decided to go to the loo, which took ages. I looked at myself in the mirror and realised I was a mess, and completely unprepared By the time I got back downstairs the interview panel were already waiting for me. One of them looked at my feet and shook their head. It was then that realised I was wearing dirty black running shoes instead of proper shoes. The interview began but I knew already I’d blown it.

A few locals were also there and there was a bit of banter. Before we went in, I needed the loo, and discovered that I had to swim across a short but deep pool to get to to it. As my swimming is quite weak, I looked elsewhere. I found a staff only door and thought that there must by a loo nearby. At the far end of the corridor, a Nazi officer came through a door so I dashed back out before I could be seen.

Herself as she used to be - sane, reasonable, etc., and her current self, with early stage Alzheimer's. I was discussing something that the older version of her had said to my sister that made no sense, with the original version of her that I remember. Make of it what you will.... it disturbed me enough to wake me up early.
