Aha, that's probably where I'm going awry!

Finally finished The Acolyte. I thought it was very average until Ep 5, when it all went a bit Pete Tong and there was a whole basketful of Unfortunate Events. Episode 7 also had some good scraps innit. But overall… Still average, in fact I got to the final reveal in Episode 8 thinking there must be an Episode 9, because they can’t end it like that. But they did. I thought the baddie was very good, and Sol grew on me as the show progressed, Mae/Osha was okay. The kids and some of the secondary Jedi were decidedly average if not a bit poor and the dialogue still had a whiff of that authentic Lucas stiffness about it. It was okay, but mainly because 2 good episodes redeemed the whole caboodle. |

I’m pretty much with JB. I thought Osha worked better than Mae but the relationship is between them was odd. The Stranger was the highlight of the series and despite thinking it was pretty mid I’d be very keen for it to get a second series as it was basically a lot of good ideas done less than brilliantly.

I thought one of the problems with The Acolyte was that I was in no way surprised (in fact I thought it was pretty obvious) who the big bad wolf was - and that sort of thing usually goes over my head! Plus, the final episode suffered from the usual inconsistencies in use of super powers that most action movies/shows do - one minute a character is easily beating a bunch of highly trained foes, then next they're overpowered by weaker adversaries that have already been shown to be easily killable.

We mostly enjoyed The Acolyte, though loads of plot holes. Though there are some story lines into a future series which would hopefully make this series a useful foundation, perhaps linking to the start of Sidious' training etc.

I know I've been critical but towards the end I actually quite enjoyed the Acolyte. Once we'd had the flashback episode where we saw what Sol et al had really done then it improved. Things I noted: - how 'Kevin & Perry' some of the younger Jedi appeared - Kyber Crystal bleeding - more witches, that's quite a few witches now - Darth Plagueis looking a bit worn - naughty Jedi, quite a few of them - a bit of unnecessary male nudity, presumably in an attempt to lure in viewers who like that kind of thing - and with @GordonG, the inconsistency of how Jedi's use their powers. Perhaps the most hilarious of examples is how they all walk around slowly in those robes or even take ages to climb walls / fix lifts when all I remember from Clone Wars was Anakin and Ashoka leaping over everything! Some of those things could defo be explored more in a series 2. Hopefully the right bits!! What's next? More Andor I hope.... |

Was the initial infiltration of the Witch Cult meeting supposed to make us think of the ATF/FBI and the Branch Davidians? The Jedi are definitely being seen more as arrogant space cops in a lot of the more recent stuff. Noble intentions but little understanding of how they're actually impacting events.

I’ve always seen them as a bunch of religious zealots.
