Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Your blogs are FABULOUS Chimbo. I hesitate to say I enjoy them, because there's much anguish and pain therein - but you write so well, with such humour and clarity I may well link your blog (with your permission)

And crikey I now am pretty sure I used to communicate with you when you were on here under a different name.

Haha, quite possibly, I've just posted a blog that's perhaps applicable to that...

Part of my reason for starting this thread:

I'm trying to find useful, accessible sports psychology material. I did find Headspace useful when I first tried it in 2014. Well, I THINK I did! That's the problem - perhaps I just had a good year in comparison to the previous two or three. I did something else different that year - made myself part of the senior athletics team rather than limiting myself to the Vets team.

Sometimes change is what we need. I widened rather than narrowed my options/horizons. That 'might' have been as useful as Andy Hesitate Pudifoot.

Writing them is definitely helping me. I still haven't started doing the research I've been talking about since last year, but even just putting down some of my thoughts had eased my head fuzz a little

CBT can be very helpful in almost any situation where we need to control our thoughts. Learning to identify, challenge and change unhelpful negative thoughts takes practise but is accessible to all.

One of these may provide a starting point: nhs.uk

One of my favourite self-talk phrases is 'there's always an excuse if you want one'. It is easy to talk yourself in to or out of anything.

I agree LMH. Had loads of therapy (including an actual psychiatrist, get me) when I was young and a bit mad and what I now know is YOU HAVE TO PUT THE WORK IN YOURSELF. No-one can do it for you.

CBT is the same (and it's not for everyone)

Meaning I agree - it takes practice. Don't be lazy! Commit!
