All things THINKING. Not just mindfulness and meditation. Not just the Positive Mental Attitude so beloved of Fetchworld. Not just Mental Health and Sports Psychology - all of those, and anything else you can think of. Good job it's not the 1960s or you might think only fabulous furry DRUG takers welcomed.... I took ages trying to think (think) of a title. Bit like taking longer to choose a band name than you do playing your geetar. Anyway. Anyone in? Anyone in-terested? |

My idea is this: Because this (still, just about) is a sporty site, the main emphasis might be on how what goes on in our heads affects the way we run, swim, jump, bike, lift weights, try to be healthy etc, etc, etc. If anyone has any insights of interesting observations then they might want to blog and link. If you've found yoga and/or meditation helpful and fun then talk about that. Have you tried Sports Psych? Are you Down in the Dumps about your particular sport? Do you have a specific problem? Care to share? Specific solutions certainly welcome. Have a THINK. |

The brain and the body are linked - well DURR, of course they are. With that in mind I'll kick off with a link to the excellent blog Flatlander wrote yesterday about falling. fetcheveryone.com/blog-view.php?id=37839 |

You started me thinking about why my head is always trying to talk me out of going for a run whenever I want to go, coming up with all manner of excuses and creating physical symptoms that appear out of nowhere, and I came up with the following theory. Sports and games, including running, are hunting and survival replacements. Formerly we exercised and practised skills in order to eat and stay alive. These days we exercise purely for fitness and fun. However, hunting is a risky business and there is danger in every outing. Fight or flee encounters are a time of crisis, adrenaline-fuelled and stressful. If you are not hungry and not at risk then your brain wants to stay safe and warm where you are, conserving energy for when it might be more urgently needed. |

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm interested in - and think IS interesting. Why do we try and get out of something we WANT to do - and know makes us feel good. Fitness and fun are survival techniques in themselves if you think about it.
