Interesting. We are meeting in different locations. We have 4 groups of 5 plus coach at the moment although they aren't all full at the moment. We have reintroduced the muster runs as groups of 6 departing at 15 minute intervals. I worry a bit about member numbers too, but I would think UKA affiliation might be more of an issue. So many do that for the race discount. Our expenses are down (no track hire) so financially we are OK at the moment even though we haven't been able to do our 10k race.

We're similar in that we're fine financially. We put on 5 races a year of which 4 have been cancelled, but we're okay. We subside our membership to keep fees low - our club's HQ is a place that hold caters for lots of different clubs (squash, football, cricket etc) and charges, and we subside that side of it to keep our fees low. I don't think we're too worried about UKA affiliation in terms of our members. Our Chair is very much in the ARC camp and I think only about 1/4 of our members (very roughly) are affiliated with UKA. I'm with UKA as I race a lot so I'll just see what happens when the time comes for that next year. Really, I think our club is a very social club that happens to be a running club, and I'm not sure what will happen to numbers if members can't do the social stuff for some time. Time will tell I suppose.

Oddly, Stockport has had quite few problems, mainly as everyone meets at the track, which is a public park, and SD is a tad difficult, plus it has been handed over to the 'elite' juniors and adults, plus wheelchair athletes for lanes. I have a slight problem with that, i.e. what about the 300 adults who are middling runners, we're left with organising runs, and taking ad-hoc sessions, and a number of coaches have dropped out, me included, far too many turning up, not really under any control.

Marple have been brilliant, no juniors, using (the frankly shite runtogether app), meeting in separate localtions at different times. Two intervals sessions (newbies and old hands), no more than 5 athleres, runs of various lengths mon/wed...according to pace, 4 maybe 5 groups, so only two or three qualiified coaches needed, plus a few run leaders, very good indeed.

Mind you, Marple has 250+ adult members now!, 5 years after forming.

Financially, Stockport maybe struggling with little income from the track, which they are now having to manage, both races called off, Stockport 10 is does well. Marple, no problems at all, nice affluent area, people paying a quid a session.....even for just a run.

If you're coaching an endurance group session and the weather is unusually hot why not change from the normal reps / intervals / tempo work to some drills, or physical prep work? It'll be better for the athletes in the long run....

From experience, what tends to happen with most people when they do coaching and they don't enjoy is they do the bear minimum in terms of planning and delivery. This means the coach is frustrated and doesn't really enjoy delivering the session(s). The athletes are less engaged because they pick-up the subconscious signals that the coach is giving off and likely put in less effort.

Ask yourself the question, "What part of coaching do I not enjoy?" and then follow with "Can I change this?". That should help a little...if you're not sure then you can always take a break for a few weeks or months.

Out of interest....How many coaches do you work with? What coaching do you provide to the athletes? What sort of stuff do they do, and what is their age group?
