Morning Good luck Sweetie and Carp. Great pic yesterday, is there an after one? Sounds like you had a good spot Columba and a nice run after. |

Columba *makes note to ask Danish daughter-in-law about the history of slavery in Denmark*. Did they trade them or just keep them? (showing off now with my fetching skills). Danish West Indies (now US Virgin Islands) and Greenland were both traditional colonies. (Iceland and Faroes too but a bit different.) The Danes shipped thousands of slaves to their plantations on the former. Just awful. I think slavery was abolished officially in second part of 19th century but luke in many places, living conditions did noy improve much. Denmark then sold the colony in 1916 to the US in exchange for some cash and renouncement of any US claim on Avanersuaq (North Greenland). Denmark passes as this nice Nordic land of equality and most Danes either don't know about the past or think they weren't that bad. |
