Which is odd, because some years ago (well, 1989) I went to Tobago. Which was Latvian, also a big surprise at the time. Seems all of 'Europe' was at it. So I've just had an interesting google, educating myself. Thanks Professor!]

Lovely day for the Elan Valley 10 miler. As marshall at a cattle grid which the runners had to cross twice (once shortly after the beginning, once shortly before the end) I was out in it for the duration, but had car nearby so was able to retreat into it for about half an hour in the middle. I enjoy marshalling; you get to observe everyone, from the front runners who are almost flying, with eyes fixed grimly on the horizon, to the laughing, staggering "don't know why I'm doing this" runners at the back; all kinds of odd body shapes and odd gaits, which nevertheless seem to get them along at a decent rate. Pony-tails swish from side to side with every step. Then I got changed in the toilets and ran 3 miles along the (flattish) cycle track.
