Solo intervals in the park during the day are hard enough. If it hadn’t been dark (and the park shut!) I would have driven down to do them there or gone to see if I could use the track. Not on my own in the dark, though. Bint suggested a stretch of road which would have been less hazardous trip-wise but by that point I’d decided to stay near home. I felt safer, even if it impacted on the pace.

Morning Fetchians.

I never knew there was a Professor Fleecio C25K! My other bugbear about C25K is that since it's based around a 30 minute session there's no guarantee that at the end of it you'll have done 5K.

Apart from some shoulder mobility exercises today is meant to be a rest day so no running today although my Garmin has decided that today I have a 10,840 step goal! Looks like I shall be going out for a long walk later.

How do people manage to rack up high step counts on just general pottering around? Particularly for those of us who are office based for the working day I can't see how to keep that up without specific activities to achieve it.

I rarely manage during the school day, unless I add a specific activity. I’m nearer 5k than 10k at the end of a work day.

Paula: a head torch might help? If I run at night I usually take one because the street lights are crap and there are trees blocking out their light anyway in places. My intervals used to be in an industrial estate, they tend to be flat and well lit.
Popped out for a few miles, didn’t quite make it down to the beach because I have a plane to catch plus the hill back up from there is ridiculous. Legs hurt still but not any more than previously :)

Can't imagine doing intervals in the dark - find it hard to motivate myself to do them on a nice calm day - which I partly why I tend towards using a C25K app and running to an effort, not a pace, don't need to think or try to look at the watch then.

There is certainly no guarantee of 5K in 30 minutes - my very first 5K after using the app back in 2011 took me about 37 minutes, I think. The last time I used it for a week 4 session I did 2.83 miles in the 30 mins, including the 5 mins "walks" which I jogged. When I get to 3 miles in the 30mins I'll know it's time to go to parkrun :)

Finish at 3pm on Friday's, so planning on 10k when I get home, most of it in the light. It's bright and sunny, but feels very cold - will need to get changed and out without giving myself time to think!
