I wanted to be a schoolteacher but they wouldn't let me because I swear too much.
Not true: I have no patience for kids.

I've decided to buy new running trainers (I must be getting committed spending my birthday money on that!😂)
I have a neutral arch but I'm unsure of what size to get. I distinctly remember the last time I went to a running shop the gentleman saying to go up 1/2 a size at least, maybe even a size in running trainers. At this point I still wear the same size trainers as my regular shoe size. Though I have managed to bruise a nail or two

Sounds like you need to go a bit bigger if your toes are hitting the end. Mine are a size bigger. As you run longer your feet will likely get hotter and so a bit bigger too. Go to a shop where they can advise and you can try on lots, there should be a space between the end of your toes and the shoe

Yes it's normal to go up a size, but manufacturers vary. I'd still go to a running shop, take your old shoes so they can see where they are worn, and take their advice. Once you've got a pair you like then you can buy online in future.

I've just had to buy new off readers, & foolishly changed to a different brand, Saucony, they seem to come up smaller than my usual Brookes, wish I'd tried them on in a shop first, would have gone up a size. & as some one said bought them online next time. Lovely comfortable grippy shoes though.

I find the same thing with Saucony ferret - mine are 2.5 sizes bigger than my regular shoe size!
