Doc I guess you are following P&D? I think the mp paced run early in the training plan comes a bit too soon for my liking, unless you have recently raced well and can base it on a predicted time, even then I have my doubts.
It’s time for the final round up of the year, but first a big thank you to you all for all your contributions to the thread. I believe this is the loveliest thread on the very best running website and as I mentioned earlier today it has been a privilege and a pleasure to have been the admin for 2018. 2019 sees Jennyh taking over that role, which I’m certain she will do a brilliant job, and I hope to see you all over there. We have spent 2018 together celebrating each other’s successes, learning from each other’s failures and sympathising through the tough times. Congratulations to those who have got to the 1500-mile target, but it has also been the journey which has made it fun, whatever the final destination.
Having been through the ups and downs of 2018 together here are some rollercoasters for our December round up, strap yourself in hold on to your glass of fizz, cup of tea or beaker of protein shake and off we go.
First down the tracks for have The Big One. Opened in 1994 at Blackpool pleasure beach was at the time the tallest and steepest roller coaster in the world. It is still a record breaker being the one on which the record for the longest roller coaster marathon has been set, currently standing at 17 days of continuous riding!
If you want to be upside down then The smiler at Alton Towers has a world beating 14 inversions. It has had a chequered history with serious incidents causing its closure but has overcome these to continue to churn the publics stomachs
If it is speed that you want then you’ll need to travel to Abu Dhabi and experience Ferrari Worlds roller coaster which is the fastest in the world, with a top speed of 150mph and an acceleration to this top speed in just 5 seconds. You have to where protective glasses when riding incase you bump into airborne insects (may be keeping your mouth closed would be a good idea too!).
If you fancy the oldest roller coaster in the world you will find that at Lakemont Park in USA. It was opened in 1902 and is a wooden construction. I had a period of closure from 1985 due to disrepair but refurbished and brought back to life

of course you wouldn’t catch me on any rollercoaster, but I wish you a smooth ride into 2019.
