Good news Mrs J. Doc, it's interesting to hear what your dogs are being trained to do.:)

Clever dogs.

Toks rest is good but your mileage was too low last year. Is 50 miles a week the minimum to prepare for a 100 mile race? It probably is. Hopefully you can get in some long runs too.

I've put your target race in the header Toks. Please let me know if you want it removed or I've got the wrong race. Looking forward to some big mileage weeks (within reason) :-)

the dogs are trained to specific sounds, but new sounds are easily added. I have a cooker timer.....and its the same as they use in costa coffee! so she alerts me every time someones panini is cooked!!!

Huntsman, if you are aiming to complete a 100-miler, although physical fitness is not irrelevant the most important aspect is desire. You have got to really, really, want it. I'm sure there is a certain ultra runner, who is at the sharp end of the field who averages in the build up to a 100-miler, about 40 miles per week.

From my experience, my miles does equal more smiles, however more miles is most helpful with respect to recovery. If you're under-cooked, the race is going to hurt, and also the recovery is going to be long and painful.
