This morning was the 65th consecutive not a parkrun 5k, and I ran it solo, on roads. My time was 27.07, average pace 8.43 minute miling, my quickest time since March.

LL our posts crossed! Yes it went well thanks, better than expected, especially as I ran it solo. Well done for your 10 miles, but sorry to hear that you felt awful all the way round. We all have days like that where "there is nothing in the tank!"

Well done HS that time is impressive. All your mileage paying off. Thanks I ran 7 with the club on Thursday night so legs felt tired. Also no breakfast or fluids. Wonāt beat myself up.

LL thanks. I never run without breakfast or fluids, as I rely on them for fuel.

LL, my rule about fluids is that if a run is less than an hour, then I take no fluids with me, except on hot days. Any run of over an hour, and I take at least water and generally an isotonic drink. (I always dilute it, because if I drink it neat, I find it too strong and sweet!) You can try going without food before short easy-paced runs, but otherwise have some cereal and/or toast before running.

I too run on empty. If I'm training for a marathon I always drink water on a Saturday evening and generally have toast for supper if I'm doing 16 plus miles (but not always). If it's a marathon paced run then I do generally have breakfast (but again not always). If you can do long runs on empty then fueling during a marathon can only be beneficial (in my opinion).

Although digesting something on the run can also be problematic! Try it out on training run, always!

Iām normally ok for a couple of hours so long as itās not hot. I took water out last week but because it was dull today I think underestimated how warm it was. Iāve had a busy week and felt tired from the start so think it was just one of those days. I will start to bring a drink now for the summer if Iām out longer than an hour.
Thanks all.
