Did the 1900 etape - arrived home around 1745 and unloaded the van , joined event around 7 mins before but not on bike yet. To warm up I rode calm for first 10 or so minutes down in the 1500s and then picked my way through. 137th |

Nice riding! Next week’s looks dull ( mostly flat) but Etapping Ventoux should be a giggle....

Got my KICKR SNAP set up today and signed up to Zwift. Going to use my free 25km and then I have a free 30 day trial so will see where I go from that. I will only be able to ride when the terror child isn't sleeping/napping as it's set up in the spare room and is far too noisy. I'm also stuck to using my Galaxy S9 to run it as my laptop/tablet thingy is too slow and low on memory to not crash. My recently broken arm will stop any real efforts for a good while but does mean I should always have time to jump on and get the legs moving once this initial dressing has been removed next week. Any recommendations for things to do, given all of the above, for me to experience Zwift in all its glory as best as I can atm? |

I started by picking the easier routes in whatever worlds were available (Eg least elevation). Watopia is cool as you’ve got roads, volcano, underwater, jungle, Alpe (not flat). I began just peddling around to get used to things - I like London as in real life I’ve run round a lot of those roads. Same with NYC although Central Park didn’t have glass flyovers when I last looked. Get the Zwift companion and look for events, don’t be afraid to join a social group ride. Everyone will speed off, but it’s quite fun watching the banter / pedalling with loads of others and being a part of it. Find me on the companion app (I can only remember your first name from West Brom days 😂) and I’ll invite to you meet ups. We chat and pedal for 45 min. I’ve done a couple of races and finished at the back but still enjoyed. There are challenges in game, I’ve signed up to the one for a Tron bike which basically means you have to climb the equivalent of Everest and then some. You’ll see people riding around on them. That one takes ages for the mere mortals amongst us. There are also workouts, I don’t follow any training plan but sometimes my running club will do a group workout and they do mix things up a bit. Zwiftinsider has a lot of good info about all aspects. That’s my thoughts for starters. Funny as I will do any sort of running on any terrain and weather but I have no desire to bike outside. Lockdown panic buying of smart trainer has given me a new love: Zwift Cycling! It’s definitely helped my running fitness. |

The game changer for me was getting the Zwift companion app. Then events - I loved tour de Watopia and Haute Route. We have L’etape for the next 2 weekends including Ventoux on 18/19.

Did a bit of indoor riding a long time ago with a recovering broken collar bone and recommend that you just explore some of the easier routes doing some easy spins. Watopia flat route, tempus fugit and London loops are good flat options. There's a list here you can sort by elevation if you want to avoid the climbs: zwiftinsider.com |

I just got my first podium in an A CAT Crit race - if anyone needs me I'm dying in the corner.
