It's true (or should be ;-)). Our gundog trainer always maintained that the key to good recall was for the handler to be the most interesting/exciting thing on the walk. Tricky to live up to that when there's fox poo etc to investigate!

I'd like to think that I could be more interesting than a decomposing rabbit or bird but sadly I know I never will be - although I can say 'leave it' a little more effectively than they can
Glad to hear Bryony was a good girl... we have also been to school this morning so I will have a nice peaceful afternoon now while Wanda sleeps off all that hard work Hope it has the same effect on Bryony too!

That's good to hear D2, I'll look forward to the blog
I look forward to the day when I'm more interesting than grass, lamp posts, other people, drains, etc...

Reading all of your posts makes me realise how lucky we were with Marvin, he was a very puppy and is an excellent dog. Knows as soon as we eat anything to go to his bed, won't get up on sofa unless his blanket is in place, etc. He is excellent on walks and stops, waits, crosses and comes on command. He does have to kill each and every single bit of food before eating it - thankfully it is dry food so doesn't cause and issue when he throws it around the room. He has a dog flag that took 3 years for him to use and if we shut him out of the living room will spend all day in garden even if raining hard. Leave living room door open and he is fine.

Hello
I need to be more active in this thread.
We have an almost two year old cocker called Millie, who is great generally and very trainable, although still gets a bit over excited when we come in and she's been home alone for a while.
As for going to bed, she sleeps in a locked crate (cage) with a blanket over, and when its time, all i need to say is "in your bed" and off she trots quite happily.
Her recall however is another issue, not good at all, especially late at night in the garden if i don't put her on the long lead for her final wee, I am definitely mot the most exciting things, and she knows it bed time.

Marvin is just gorgeous, Moo, and a credit to you. I assume you were talking about his dog 'flap' not dog 'flag'? It took me a while to work that one out!
lammo - do you give Millie a treat when she does come back to you?
