Alice the Camel
Thanks all. Mr Alice read the pack instructions slightly differently to me. I've increased the portions slightly and Charlie seems much happier. He doesn't get any other snacks or treats yet. He is sleeping well, apart from a few minutes of whining when he wakes up (presumably to pee) but he soon settles again. We've made a secure run in the garden which we've been putting him in every hour for a few minutes - he's getting the idea of using it as a toilet but obviously he's far too young to be able to tell us when he needs to go out yet. I'm really looking froward to seeing how he gets on at the Puppy Parties that the vet practice organises. He's very well socialised with people - not phased by anyone so far! He doesn't seem bothered by loud noises such as the vacuum cleaner and he is very happy to be in the car. I'm interested to see how he gets on with other dogs. I'm going on a bit now...can you tell I'm a proud new mum? |

So. After 3 yrs of Cookie and 2 of Phoebe we've had to bite the bullet, so to speak. A one on one session with a dog behaviourist. For both of them. The ultimate issue is recall and the fact we ca t let them off lead. They are not aggressive at all, but show lots of signs of domination. We kinda knew what we did was the cause, but reading it in a book or online is not as easy to process as speaking to a behaviourist. One session of 2 and a but hours and he's pointed us in the right direction. Let's give it a couple of weeks and see how we get on. |

I agree, having someone demonstrate and explain is very worthwhile in dog handling. Good luck - you'll need self discipline too, not to slide back into softer ways (speaking as one who knows!)
