So, you know I mentioned about Bella's eyes being a bit weepy. Turns out her eyelids turn inwards a bit too much, so she's going to need an operation to fix them. Temporary for now, then probably something more once she's fully grown.

Hope Bella recovers from her op quickly. Sounds encouraging that it’s been identified nice and early, so can be tackled before any lasting damage is done to her eyes.

I’m still pulling black Labrador hair from Cleo’s eyeballs twice a day, despite the fact that Stella (whose brain tumour finally started to affect her quality of life) has been gone for a week. I’m really missing my Lab, but Cleo has been thoroughly depressed all week.

Here’s how she’s spent most of the week and how she looks like right now:

Here’s the face that we’re both missing from the armrest of my couch:

Yes, have hopefully prevented her getting ulcerated eyeballs. Getting the lubricating drops in has been fun though.

Poor Cleo, she looks very despondent. I hope you both feel better soon.

We are currently on holiday. Last night we had to send Wanda to kennels overnight - which was completely unplanned and we had to arrange at very short notice the day before, basically quick online search of nearby kennels, visit the nearest one, book her in, arrange for our vets to email to say she was up to date with her jabs and hope for the best.

All this with a dog (ex-Battersea and a breed X known for not coping well with kennels) that is extremely stressed by the kennels experience and kennelling her is an absolute last resort for us usually and generally requires a lot more 'preparation' (having 'usual' things to leave with her etc - none of which we had brought with us on holiday)

Anyway, despite leaving a nervous, shaking, terrified (it appeared) dog with them on Saturday she 'bonded' with one member of staff and when we collected her this morning she was much more settled than we expected her to be and is quite relaxed now we have got her back to our holiday cottage. Makes me wonder whether the kennels we have occasionally left her at at home are not as good as we had been led to believe. However as we are a 7 hour drive from home, bringing her here should we ever need to kennel her again isn't an option.
