She was very wet and muddy and only wanted tovplay with her ball. On the way back down the hill she laid her head on my foot in the Land Rover and allowed me to tickle her ears.

I've just come in here to share with you my friends who may understand this one! Some of you know I never let Indi off the lead... fear of what might happen to him etc.
Today I stopped off part way through a journey in a park I saw to let him stretch his legs.
I meet a woman and her son with their 9 year old GSD, lovely gentle dog. They started talking to me and on hearing that I didn't let Indi off insisted that I try with them. I was loath to do so but there weren't many people about and Indi seemed to want to stay with their Rex so after lots of cajoling I undid his lead. Good job I wasn't wearing a heart rate monitor!
OMG, Indi is such a good dog, who knew? Instantaneous recall, wasn't interested in people, children with balls, men with golf carts etc. He looked at but didn't interfere with other dogs unless told it was ok, came straight back when asked and stayed nearby and kept checking back. Amazing.
This will mean nothing to you who always let your dogs off lead but I NEVER do and it was terrifying to start with and I'm not sure I would have the courage to do it again but I was shocked, really shocked at how well behaved he was, Bless his little cotton socks.
I'm so proud.

I’m not shocked...
He’s a smart lad, and you’ve really put the time, effort, care and love into bringing him up!

Fergus is dead right!
You will have courage to do it again, too. Indi is quite capable of coping with that freedom! Raffo lets Jess off lead in appropriate parts of the park on Sundays while I'm at track. She and he became familiar with the location over time and he's very confident about her behaviour now. Needless to say he doesn't take any risks with small children and some small dogs. Indi has a much more affable nature than Jess (who as you know can be a bit of a madam)
'OMG, Indi is such a good dog, who knew?' Are you kidding? EVERYONE except you! xx

I am not shocked at how good Indi was...but as someone who’s dog is very, very rarely off lead I understand the terror of doing it!

What a lovely story Like everyone else I'm not in the least bit surprised that Indi behaved well. Why wouldn't he after all your hard work? And I hope your confidence in him continues to grow.

As everyone else has said it really is no surprise to hear that Indi was so well behaved. You have worked so hard and have such a strong bond. Of course he wants to stay close and values being with you over all those other things.
