Indi used to drag his bed outside too which really annoyed them when he was in kennels but he has stopped now and he is less interested in tearing up cardboard boxes... growing up I suppose? he does sometime get a cushion off the sofa to put his head on when lying down :)

I kind of wish Ernie would drag his bed around. He will lie on anything that may have my smell. He lies in the washing basket full of dirty clothes, on any clothing I have left on the floor (I should have grown out of the use of a floordrobe by now), blankets and his favourite is my bed. I have vetbed or dog blankets in most rooms but he doesn't choose those.

I can't help with the bed destruction as Ernie isn't inclined to that kind of behaviour. Eating anything he can get his paws on is his main vice.

Today, after almost two years I managed to commit Eb's ashes to the ground... silly that's its taken me so long but it felt ok today. I miss her still.

Not silly at all D2. These things should be done when the time is right, which was obviously today.

I glad that today felt OK. If today felt right then it was the right time for you.

We've been to the vets this morning. New tactic on my part - with Wanda's lead in one hand and lots of cheese in the other run across the road, across their carpark and quickly in through the door before Wanda has worked out where she is.... which worked a treat! Then we had lots of shaking and tail firmly down until we went in to the consulting room.

Various lumps and bumps checked over again but not thought to be of concern. Limping/stiffness in left front leg not an injury so probably the start of arthritis - keep giving the joint supplement we have already started and finally her annual booster jab.

During the consultation Wanda was becoming more and more agitated - she always is a little bit so but I knew why... I had tried to encourage her to 'go' on the walk round there but being a lady she couldn't find anywhere private enough. Once done with the vet I told them I'd be back to pay in a moment and took her out of the front door where all thoughts of privacy were out of her mind and the grass verge right outside their door was deemed a suitable place. I'm sure it would have been a much easier experience for all of us if she had just done that before she went in!

2 years is not really that long, D2. Am I right in thinking she was with you much longer than that?

I’ve just booked a seminar on ‘Fear and anxiety in dogs’ at the place we go to for training. They’re also doing one specifically on ‘reducing fear at the vet’s’ - apparently there are people who specialise in it. A bit like a children’s play therapist maybe?

At least a kid can get an 'I was brave at the dentist's' badge. Wanda was offered a gravy bone by the vet but spat it on the floor as soon as she had taken it - usually she loves them.

We have tried to minimise her fear - I will sometimes take her in there pop her on the scales and come out again and the receptionists always make a big fuss of her but she knows ultimately that she is probably going to have something fairly unpleasant done to her. The only highlight for her was that there was a cat in a cat basket in the waiting room when we came out. The poor owner had to cover it with her coat while I was paying!

I wouldn't like to be taken into a small room to be prodded by a random stranger either. :)
