We've just seen two gorgeous springer spaniels in the Forest Centre. One was off lead with a runner, the other, going in the opposite direction, was following a cyclist.

You know that noise that GSDs make when they have an opinion? (Most of the time!)
You know how spaniels (or at least, Jet) is mostly a silent dog? Jet is sitting on a small chair, nose pressed against the kitchen door, complaining that there is a cat in the garden and no-one will let him out to chase it.

What about that barking and whining terriers make when they see a cat outside?

The silent spaniel genes clearly didn't get passed down to Ernie 🙂 He's not very noisy but can be vocal when he want's something - usually food.

Stella (lab) is four, and I don't think I've ever heard her bark. Cleo (whippet) on the other hand has a very piercing high pitch whine when she wants something. She also has a yappy bark whenever she spots a dog on the other side of the street or (more annoyingly) any animal at all shows up on my tv screen.

Jet started his life a a silent puppy, but has become more vocal. He now has a wide vocabulary of sounds, and yesterday he growled at the radiators which made a slight clicking sound when the heating came on.
He's whining at Mr right now for reasons that are not yet clear but, I suspect, involve running around the garden checking for evidence of cats.
Most of the time he achieves what he wants with a variety of meaningful stares. It's hard to ignore a dog whose nose is an inch in front of my own.
