He is becoming a lot more liveable with.. I can leave shoes on the floor and my shoe laces are staying done up!

Do any of you use a crate for time out in the day and night time sleeping, if so how long did you go on using yours at night? Its my first time, it has been wonderful and he goes in willingly but I don't know if its a forever thing or not?

Any comments gratefully received. :)

Jet still sleeps in a crate, and it is closed at night. I like knowing that we can shut him safely in a place where he is safe and can't do any damage. We'e just moved his crate to our new home and he has transferred quite happily with it.

Ralph's crate still comes out at home occasionally - if we have guests or are decorating and he'll trot into it happily even if he hasn't seen it for a while.

It means he has his own safe bed when we go away and can be "left unattended" in holiday cottages (yes I know, usually against the rules) if we go for a swim or out for dinner and I know he can't get into mischief

The reason for the phrase "can't do any damage" is that Jet has done quite a lot of damage! We are replacing the flooring in his room (he pulled it up - in pieces) and repainting the walls (muddy splatters), and repairing the door that he scrabbles against if we have visitors who are not dog friendly. He does *not* like being left out of social events. If he does this in the new house I will be extremely 'dischuffed', so we're putting perspex over the door and a vinyl cover on the floor.

Friends of ours were advised to get a crate for their dog by a dog psychologist so the dog has a place that is 'theirs'. They have small children and the dog is much happier now she has her own space to retreat to.

Good point, and with grandchildren around that's an excellent back-up position for us.

Dogless household here :-( Floss has gone to my sister's for a few days as she can't stay on the IoW with us. Our loss is my sister's gain though (the late Bella was her dog) and she and my BiL were really happy to have a dog in the house again when I dropped her off this morning. She's already sent me a pic of Flossie snuggled on the sofa with my brother-in-law :-)
