Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I've got a petzl Myo that has been a faithful companion for many years and that's what I pack when weight is a consideration. For nights on the Fells and things like BGR supports I use a Hope R4, there is nothing to match it for power and quality. My wife has an R2, that's pretty potent too. Unsociable though and if you are running behind someone they will be running in their own shadow.

Hope R4 for serious running as NE says - can’t be beaten for build quality (and after sales service in rare occasion needed). Happy with £30 Petzyl or an Alpkit for (rare) bits of road running I do

Thanks to all for your responses - plenty of food for thought there, particularly as the nights have started to draw in (a bit)

I've been very happy with my Alpkit Gamma, which I have had for a year. I wasn't aware of the issue, and I hope I don't have them.

The only negative to me, is that is says it doesn't work on rechargeable batteries and I haven't been brave enough to try yet (also, we didn't have any rechargeables of the right size at home)

Might give the Kalenji a try as the mornings start to get darker and need to replace a broken alpkit. I wear glasses and wear a cap in the rain, which doesn't go well with a head torch! And in light rain or mist I can hardly see anything.
