[I have a strange hankering to visit the tripoint of Nor, Fin and Rus, at Muotkavaara, HoD]

Although the eastern-most parts of the USA are in GMT-5, much of South America is in the GMT-3 time zone.

[The prosperity of Tromsø is attributable to the historic fur trade with Murmansk, just round the corner. Great place for a winter holiday.]

[Thanks for that recommendation Glenners. Tromsø is very much on my bucket list. The marathon is in the summer, though, so I'll not experience it in Winter if I use my traditional excuse for travel. This discussion has also now got me looking at Hammerfest as something to "tick off"]

Long weekend (indirect) return flights to Hammerfest can be had from Aberdeen. The flights take between 7 and 11 hours, stopping a few times en route, and cost less than £400!

A similar itinerary can be had from Humberside via Amsterdam, with fewer stops, for £526.

Norway is not as expensive as I thought, if I compare it to New York prices.

Beer is expensive, decent wine in a restaurant no more expensive than here.

The attraction of the winter trip is the northern lights. Madame and I were there in December in 2013. At that point the sun wasn’t going to get above the horizon again for another six weeks.

There is a character in Moby-Dick called Yosemite Sam.
There is a climb route in Yosemite National Park (on El Capitan) called Moby Dick.

There's a vicar in Reigate whose name appears to be unique in the whole world of Bing.
