[Road numbers: A1 through A6 radiate from London in clockwise order. A7-A9 from Edinburgh. Other roads start with a number related to this- a road starting between the A1 and A2 will start with 1 etc.- obviously there is ambiguity here 're start and end of a road!]

[The exception to the road numbering thing is in north Kent, where roads between the A2 and the Thames estuary should have started with 1 but it was thought more sensible to have all the Kent roads starting with 2]
