Unfortunately, I'm not in Scotland and am kinda between houses, and my parents ARE in Scotland but have a nasty habit of half-killing anyone who draws pictures on their walls, as my sister and I found out many times

Not so much something I didn't know as something I'd not twigged - Finisterre (the region broadly corresponding to Fitzroy in the modern shipping forecast) was named purely because there was a belief that that, as it were, was that. The end of the world.
