Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What do you know today, that you did not yesterday?

Menzies Aviation, who provide fuelling and ground handling services at many UK airports, are a continuation of the same John Menzies plc who used to sell me comics and records as a child from their store on Week Street in Maidstone.

The letter 'yogh' in Middle English became indistinguishable from the letter 'tailed z', when written similarly to a modern numeral, '3'. Hence, "... Lowland Scots words have a z in place of a yogh—the common surname MacKenzie was originally written MacKenȝie (pronounced makenyie)." *

that you can take an EMPTY water bottle or flask through airport security, then fill it up for free using drinking water fountains on the other side

[We've been doing that for years GordonG. It's worth checking out the airport info in advance as to the location of the water fountains. They are not always so obvious!]

Polzeath in Cornwall* introduced a refill scheme, with various taps and fountains dotted around the village. It was stopped during Covid, be interested to see if it's started up again.** We still have the branded metal bottles we got from the Marine Conservation Centre.
