Good work :)G, are there any 'spots' we need to think about for the G2E? It's been a while since I have been there, but is the switch from the Forth/Clyde to Union well signposted and easy? I wouldn't like to end up in the Forth!!!

Last big run from me at the weekend before the G2E, 30 miles on the coast. keeping up the intensity but dropping off the volume over the next 12 days.

Are you taking the P out of my previous navigational error back in August Boab?! Yes, very go wrongable, I would say!

Joking apart, if you are up the front (and you will be) and they don't have a marshal or obvious sign (or they're off for a slash, ice cream, fag... whatev) and you are as tired and befuddled as I am, then can easily go wrong.

This is the key bridge. Signposted in very small pedestrian letters for the Falkirk Wheel visitor centre and Union canal.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@56.001358,-3.840818,3a,75y,48.58h,86.51t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sYX2aZsqkjacAAAQYRD582Q!2e0!3e11

Don't know if that will take you to the pic, but at 22 miles, if you go straight on your off to Carron to put your barge in the Forth, having started at the Clyde. No use if you want to go to Edinburgh! You have to turn right at that wee bridge. Then you go up a 400m long, 20m ascent up a path, with the wheel on your right.

Anyhoo, ask if you want a better description.

The other place to go wrong (and I got it a bit wrong this time, having gone OK the previous time) is just after you start in Glasgow at about 1 mile as you come off the Clyde side of canal and go onto the Forth side. It's signposted "Falkirk" but only after you've missed the turning! You go down a slip way to the left, under a bridge (with single file traffic and only very narrow pavement), then up a slip on the other side. You can see where the canal forks left and right and you know you want the right, but like all good cloverleaf junctions, you can't work out why you have to go left in order to get to the right!

Actually, I don't know exactly where we start, so might not be exactly at 1 mile. Anyhoodle! :-) G

LOL, I had no idea you got lost on teh canal, it was a genuine question. I might take a wee trip through this weekend with the girls for a day out and do a bit of a recce of both bits. There is nothing worse than getting lost on a canal towpath ;)

Enjoy the skiing.

boab - i supported a runner a few years ago and on the day you won't get lost as bag drop is at the bridge you cross at the wheel. Loads of supporters out at the wheel as well so i can't imagine you wouldn't be directed in the right direction should you try to get lost;-)
What time of day do you expect to be around the Polmont area as i'll try get out to cheer you along?

Sure it's 6.5 from the wheel to Brightons but you'll still be around midday which might be to quick for me finishing work. Best of luck if i don't get out:)

One thing to watch is that on a couple of occasions over the past few years there have been closures on the towpath that weren't notiifed. So worth checking for any updates yourself rather than relying on race information:

Yes, there was a detour on Saturday just before wheel, I think, diverted off to left, bridge over railway then back on. No, can't have been at wheel. I'll have a look at my Garmin trace and see where it was. And :-O at Boab at 27 miles in 3 hours. Wowsers! :-) G

It's a rough estimate G, not an exact time ;)
