I want to read this guys blog/post now. Where can I find it. I did a neg split in VLM this year, it was my best race, I did give my best effort, I did get the PB I was looking for and I was f*cked at the end. In a good way. But all that is definitely in the non-elite category! :-)G

On flips last post G.

I include you in those that I know who have negative split a marathon. Do you have HR stats for it?

I can see his point about closing the gap on cardiac drift during a marathon and to negative split would usually mean an even larger cardiac drift, but I think we need more stats and more variables before you can conclude that positive split is the way forward.

Anyway this is WHW thread. Can I just say that I get all 'funny' when I read this thread :)

Interesting stuff Boab (even if i haven't quite got my head around it all ) . I'd like to see you comment on his blog to get his answer :-)

nobber or not it was actually John K who spoke highly of him. I'm always interested in other views on training and at the age of 50 he's still putting his money where his mouth is. Winning the UK's most brutal 100 hill race last week was no mean feat.

I know, and John k dies indeed speak highly of him and laughed about him not recognizing him. Agree it's an incredible feat and he's a damn good runner though, and his blog straight after was his most humble yet.

THanks for link Flip.

Yes Boab, HR mile by mile split is on training log and blog from VLM (Sun 21 April in case not everyone knows when The Marathon is/was). My HR went right up to 174 ave for last few miles (90% of max) and peaked at 183 (95% of maxHR). Completely flat course, no change in any conditions, 6:44 ave pace and 167 HR for first 13, 6:38 and 171 HR for next 13. Could I have pushed harder earlier, done a positive split and got a better time? Possibly. Do I care, errr... no! Got best time ever and result from the day that I wanted after 6 months of graft.

I now plan to do 22 months of graft and would be delighted with a finish, with any flippin split you like as long as I get a goblet (and maybe a beer at Kingshouse!) Oh and hugs from santa. :-) :-) :-)

Off for my first of hopefully 2 x 20s for my first attempt at back to back training. 22 month build up to WHW 2015 starts here! :-)G
