Just nominated MikeR for MOTM

HG, i reckon you could do the whw in a good time tomorrow. It's a real runners course suited to you and you know it well. However if you run in 2015 i should be about to buy you a beer at Kingshouse as you did for me :-)

Now that *would* be brilliant to look forward to! A beer at 70 miles in, nearly a marathon still to go - my kind of race!

Kind of you to say I could do it now, and possibly I could just death march to 35 hours. But I think that is a different kind of hard. I have huge admiration for folk who do 30 - 35 hours, but I really don't want to do that, if poss. I'd like to do 22-26 hours, with sub 24 a real target. And that will take some serious work to get the endurance and resilience. And I'm looking forward to putting that work in. It's all about the journey, not the destination, as Andy always says!

So, hopefully a good few shorter ultras (and excuse to come to NE and NW England ultras, as well as Scottish ones) over the intervening 18 months.

I was torn between MikeR and M1nty. WHW heroes both, for very different reasons. Actually Sandemon had a stormer this year too. :-)G

Yes :-)G, speaking as someone who ran 50 miles, walked 45 and came in to FW in 31:06 it is definitely my goal to finish sub 30 next year. I want to enjoy it! You're a speedy guy you'll get sub 24 I'm sure.

We at Stonehaven half mara control are seriously thinking of moving the half to the weekend before so it doesn't clash with the great Glen way as so many folk from our club want to do it. Several of the committee can't manage the usual date of 1st Sunday in July due to weddings/ holidays and it would be difficult to organise with new people

Sounds very sensible to build up Happyg. I didn't go down the sensible route though :-). Wish i hadn't blogged or said so much nice stuff about The great glen ultra, i loved the solitude of no other runners for the majority of the time. Put the limit at 20 next year Mike :-)

Going back a few pages, why not just drop 2013 from this thread's title and not bother starting any new ones?

I think :)G is great approach, slow and steady. Personally I think he could do next year mind you. You've already crewed more than enough to see exactly what to expect from a wide range of times. And with the Ultras you're doing/have done already you have that base/experience

oh I agree in the approach to it but really do think if you're marathon fit and light , have the off road experience and know the course , all of which happyG can tick the boxes then you will do well at whw . (given a fair wind, good day etc )

Thanks for the support guys - if nothing else, I have to save up some money for the cost of WHW! Might take me a year or two!

I think Fling will be a big enough challenge for first part of next year. Would love to do Cateran too, but is it a bit soon after Fling? What other 50-60 milers are there after that? Obviously there are Lake or Northumbria ones, but is there anything else in Scotland? :-)G
