Do people watch virtual runs?

I imagine they might appeal to people running on treadmills?

I tend to seek out videos like the following before I do any running tourism but also watched some when I was stuck in hospital a few year ago.

The following LA video I found quite entertaining

I have made a few on holiday in New York and Washington that I edited down to a few minutes but never thought to do a longer, local (London) run. I was thinking I might try making one of my own with a bike camera.

What are your thoughts? Maybe post ones you like in here - might be a welcome distraction for someone on a dreadmill or injured somewhere

Not particularly, though I've watched a few trail ones: i was looking for technique ones. Bikes ones are maybe better as they go faster ;-) I liked eLBee's Canarias ones ( (in between the terror!)

One set i do watch from time to time is Scottish parkruns series: not quite they same as they are a bit of chat, a bit of running (not full runs) and some drone footage.

This one from a near to me parkrun at University of Stirling has some especially scenic footage, worth putting up on a bigger screen to watch

(The woods there will be filled with bluebells just now - too far for a visit :-( )

I have a DVD (at least five years old, possibly more) from Outside Interactive which covers a marathon-length route in Boston, US. (Not THE marathon.) I have "run" the first few miles of it on the treadmill, but to be honest it was quite dull, just ordinary suburban streets.

I might be more interested if there was a video of an actual race. I think when I bought mine, you could specify different completion times and I chose 3:30. I guess they probably just change the recording rate to suit.

Dvorak - oh yeah - Scottish parkrun series is really good. I watched a lot of those and and have added Forte William to the bucket list. I will check out the University of Stirling one later - thanks

salomon seem to do some really cool looking trail / fell videos too.

Synge - I forgot race ones. I remember watching a sped up version of Amsterdam Marathon before running it about 10 years ago - it was quite useful warning of cobbles near the finish.

I had a go at making one with a 360 camera I bought for cycle commuting (evidence).
It was not good enough for that purpose but *only £80 and can be quite nice on hike summits / dinners for memorys. Definately a niche.

Here is my short video. It seem the microphone is very sensitive or I am heavy breather. Hopefully that scream wasn't anything serious - I didn't notice it at all on the run.

(should be able to drag the video to move around of move phone, drag on mobile)

Holding the arm out is harder than I would think and every one gives you weird looks. That said, it is something i would do again if running somewhere scenic / once in a lifetime etc

I must confess to being a bit of an addict with watching these. Film My Run (Stephen Cousins), Paul Coe and Trek & Run are probably my favourites.

Pretty good to get an idea of a future race that I might like the look of. Sometimes a method of trying to spot myself if I was in the same race.

Nice video Kieren, I really want to get myself a 360 camera - specifically an Insta360 One!

I started making YouTube videos back in May because my running was going down the drain thanks to lockdown. I've also been making virtual runs for treadmills (as well a running tours and running vlogs).

This is my latest virtual run video, published today:

So smooth. What do you use? Great to get the sunrise :)

I'd like to edit down a few of my favorite runs to 2 minutes ish but my 360 isn't good quality and the phone on a selfies stick is a bit unwieldy.

I use a GoPro Hero 7 (with HyperSmooth switched on) with an iSteady Pro 2 gimbal:

amazon.co.uk

With a GoPro you can record using Timewarp mode, which gives you smooth speed up footage, like a timelapse but with HyperSmooth switched on.

I use Filmora9 to edit my videos, I'm still learning though.

Thanks.
I would like a gopro but can't quite justify it. I'll have to stick with the phone for now.

Adobe rush is quite well featured on the free version for simple edits (I think on desktop too). I use it on a phone and it will edit 4K but that's a recent ish flagship (Samsung s9)
