Another couple of miles along the A29 and close enough that I can pop into the Te Poi Tarvern for a beverage this evening :)

I've got the app now and from there set it to ignore steps. It's going to count running and walking which I've decided is fair; Frodo and Sam didn't do much running :-)

Having deleted the steps I'd already done, it's right back to 7 miles now. I best make more of an effort from tomorrow!

Thanks again for the help and explanations from various people, much appreciated.

I've decided outdoor running is the only fair comparison, someone doing 70 miles of odd walking in the first 2 days is something I cant compete against. The runners seem more reasonable, there is a surprise!

Running only for me too, Minimag.

The run-walk-combo participants cover some impressive distances, that’s for sure.

Does anyone have a list of all the official sites that we should be seeing on this journey and where they are?

i haven't seen one. I know lots of companies do tours visiting locations, so there must be quite a few.

So far, I'm aware of Hobbiton, Rivendell (on a little out-and-back spur near Wellington) and Mount Doom as the finish. Anyone know of any others? I'll put a list with distances in the sidebar later on.

I am completely ignorant I’m afraid, but I found the SWCP breakdown into chunks very motivating so would love it if we (you) could come up with something similar here.
