Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Same as tennis serve speeds and cricket bowling speeds. Doesn't matter what the units are sometimes, you might as well say fast or very fast for as much as it means to me.
I guess for cricket ball speeds, the difference between it took 0.45 seconds for the ball to reach the batsman versus it took 0.75 seconds for a spin bowler, doesn't sound like it's a big difference.

See, that makes slightly more sense Cerrertonia . At least it gives you a perceptive of reaction times, but the difference between a very fast bowler (Brett Lee, for example) and a fast bowler (Glenn McGrath) is so minute, that the unit of measurement doesn't really matter. Most of us mortals have no comprehension of the difference. It just ends up being a figure read out with almost no context.

Anyway, that's probably a little tangential to the thread!!

Haha. That made me really chuckle. I was trying to find a brilliant flow-chart style graphic I saw a while ago regarding the inconsistency of British measurements to post on here, but couldn't find it.

That brilliant example would beat hands down anything that was on there though.

No. It's a very tongue in cheek flow chart, across an entire range of different types of measurements, temperature, distance, speed, cooking, etc.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
That is great, except it's not crazy enough!

I'd add

Temperature - is it Summer or Winter? Winter - def Celsius (0C is freezing), but summer, Is it Scorchio or just normal? Scorchio usually Fahrenheit "90s or even may hit 100 (F)". Normal day? 18-20C?

Mass - are you weighing people, splits into "is it for general fatness / social or a specific sport?" I know my weight in kg for paragliding, because it's what my harness is certified to (you DEFINITELY want to get that right!)

And we could add for running (jogging): Euro marathons in km but UK pace most folk probably do mins per mile?!

etc. ... ? :-) G

About This Thread

Units of measurement, could there be a benefit in what system you use?

I shall be a little philosophical now.
To be under, let’s say 60min, on 10km, might be one of the first goals for us exercise weekend warriors. 6min/km.10km under one hour, lots of nice and round numbers.

(I don’t know what you brits call a person who exercises as a hobby?)

But in imperial that’s like under 9,39min on 6,213 miles. Or something like that.
Not quite the same ring to it.
I know we all are fa...
