Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

This is the approach I am taking to the UTMB. I have a series of races that are incrementally harder/longer leading up to to the Lakeland 50, this will give me a five-week recovery period before the big one.

Something like this:

- Haworth Hobble (32)
- Calderdale Hike (37)
- Old Counties Tops (39)
- Osmotherley Phoenix (32 - TBC)
- Lakeland 50

Not really a race, but I am going to do the Cumbrian Traverse as a lead-up to the Old Counties Tops and I've also got a full week's training in Chamonix planned.

Thanks for the Blog RWR

I'm under instruction from my osteo/physio/SM/bitch to NOT do B2B for 3-4 weeks which means I'm unlikely to do any but will extend my Sunday runs to 22-24-26-28 (maybe). I can still run on Sat for maybe an hour or do a bike ride.

If I run more in the week that will suit me better I think I don't want to ruin the Connie Experience over foolishness.

Back to back marathons as training runs for events later this year, done and dusted this weekend. :)

Day One the winds were so strong it was like running uphill for 4.3 miles and then downhill for 4.3 miles :)

Hmmm, following on from FR's back to back marathons (2 weeks apart FR, was it?) and my marathon at weekend that has left me feeling a bit battered, can we return to the subject of:

races in build up to your main ultra: yes or no? And if yes, then raced (i.e. go hard as you can) or training pace? If raced, then do you taper and then recover? How much time does this take out of your plan?

In a marathon build up, I would expect to be able to race a 10K and a half and not lose minimal training benefit that week (a couple days off before and after max and maybe slighly less total in the week before and after, but still intervals before if in plan etc.) Is this also possible with ultras or is racing a 26.2 or 33 miler in build up to 50 or 60 mile "A" race, just take too much out of you?

Thanks, :-)G

Aha, I spotted the "two weeks apart" but didn't remember the first one was a double. Awesome stuff. So, did you race them or pootle them?
