I ended up running from box hill past Reigate so saw a bunch of people doing to the xnrg race. If you were overtaken by someone in a green hoody and orange shoes, that was me

I had to pull out of the event this weekend :( It's been a rough few days at home and I just couldn't justify leaving my wife and son for two days and a night. I'm sad about that, because I was really looking forward to it...but not as sad as I'd be if I was stuck away from home and something bad happened. First race I've ever entered and not run, and of course its the expensive one! But life happens, and there will be other chances, and the training I've done will be a good base for a first road marathon attempt in April. I did a bit of a route reccy last weekend from Redhill to Box Hill, so I know that's a tough bit of trail, NDWDave! Hopefully everyone made it to the end of day one, I'll keep an eye out for reports!

Ah that is shame. The weather was benign and the trails in very good shape for January

But trails and races will always be there but family won’t so good decision

Thanks, people! It looks like a perfect day for it, not too hot or too cold, no rain for over a week so not too muddy. Maybe too many cows?...But yes, right thing to bail out on this occasion. Very much keeping an eye on this thread, lots of useful tips. I'm liking, in particular, "complete not compete", to walk before you have to walk, and to eat more!

eL Bee! and I got chased by a herd of young Belties on a right of way across farmland close to home. We weren't worried until we realised that these ones hadn't got the memo about backing off if we turned round to face them.
