Bring and share lunch. Lord in your mercy hear my prayer, that’s going to be dreadful. You’ll be eyeballs deep in various dips and have a choice of 17 flavours of hummus to dip carrot/celery in. Got to be a sickie? Or go big - bring in 3 pints of lager and a bag of Nobby’s Nuts. |

Not in the slightest, coach. In the old days, when I took time off to be home with the dogs because Sam was away, I would end up spending every day day on the sofa, binge watching random tv shows and knitting because I had no energy or motivation to do any of the many things I wanted to get done in that time, not eating or eating crap because coming was too much for me, not leaving the house at all if I could help it, and at the end of the week (or however long) instead of feeling refreshed I'd feel like shit because I'd done nothing. Now, I know that the lack of energy and motivation were mostly symptoms of depression and if I couldn't make myself good do things it's because my mind and body needed time to rest and recover from the constant stress of my old job and having to mask my autism to a really high level every day, so I'm trying to be more compassionate with myself and stop thinking I was being lazy or useless, but they was definitely how I felt at the time. This week (with the conscious exception of today because I wanted one proper lion) I've been getting up around 7 and getting shit done every day, making real food for dinner, and going out to meet people and do things - ok, it's only Wednesday morning, but I'm including the weekend in this because Sam went away on Friday. I'm convinced the difference is down to having a job where I'm up and outside doing stuff all day without having to devote much, if any, of my mental energy to appearing neurotypical, instead of being in an office surrounded by people who will freak out or complain about me if I'm too weird. |
