You should be quicker in a wetsuit, without a turn every 25m though.

I hope so
I was just happy to do 1.5km non stop without stressing!

thought it was wishful thinking to be super fast too! would have been like 5+ secs quicker than my pool swims if it was right should have known
plonker

and there is another reason for "one and only one" I'm too slow! Training takes up far too much time

Sweetie
Am I the only person on the planet who is considerably slower in a wetsuit? People from my tri club, who I easily beat in the pool, are way ahead of me in OW events. Never worked out the reason for it, but it is depressing.
Answers on a postcard....

I don't believe I am faster in a suit tbh sweetie
My issue was I was comparing pace in yards and meters so thought I was being awesome when I wasn't !

I just want to finish Outlaw in one piece and if that means I scrap cut offs then so be it! I just want the damn medal and tee!

Happy emergance day AC

Sweetie, I'm frustratingly now slower in a wetsuit than pool, however this could be due to mobility in my new race kit, but its faster on the bike (by quite a lot too). A trade off I'm willing to make. My old sleeveless tri-suit let me really rotate my shoulders rather well. It could mean a new wetsuit though, those Deboer wetsuits are rather nice :-)

Rotation in OW for me is a problem right now but dryland drills/skills while wearing my wetsuit laying on the lounge floor is not only good for weight loss but also reminding me I'm not a brick!

Its a constant test of will, knowledge and marginal gainz that all add up.

Hmmmm...

Generally the more 'sinky legs' you are the more a wetsuit benefits. So someone with excellent body position - a good swimmer - does not get the benefit that a poor swimmer does. So times between wetsuit and non wetsuit are very close for them.

But actually slower is another thing altogether. It means OW swimming in a wetsuit in some way deteriorates the stroke you have in the pool.

Things that could happen:
You really need that long deep breath at each turn to top up Oxygen so when swimming OW with no turns your oxygen intake is compromised and you have to slow.
Bit nervous, not relaxed - some parts of your stroke suffer - maybe lift the head much higher to breathe due to chop etc so position is compromised despite wetsuit bouyancy, or not breathing as long/deep.
Wetsuit restricts natural shoulder movement.

Think Ankh may have more answers.

grep shutit smart arse! :-P

I have noticed I swim differently OW

in a pool I take fewer strokes about 17 so "long and strong" is my err mantra as such and I don't use my legs much

OW I have a much higher arm turn over and shorter stroke and I have to think use legs or the feel like they sink and so nowt

I hope it's just lack of OW practice

the half should be fine and I have time to improve for the full

I glide like nobody's business on one side only so I'm faster in OW/wetsuit but tend to go round madly off course unless I sight every half dozen strokes which not only slows me down but I also find really tiring.
