There’s an ÖTILLÖ style race up here, Loch Ness IIRC. I remember it looked very steep (the run, not the swim ;) )

Recoil, that sounds amazing and pretty terrifying - no wonder you're on a high!

A friend did a tri at the lido a few years back which was an 'odd' number of lengths, and they finished at the deep end and she wasn't allowed to cross other lanes to get to the steps (which is how I know no-one's allowed to give you a hand out too - she says she took an age to climb out :-( ) I think I need to ask the organisers what the plan is this year. You're right Gobi, shorter could indeed be harder effort.

That not giving a hand thing is not good. It's perfectly normal for burly marshalls to haul you out of the water in OW events.

I am getting ready for Windsor at the weekend. Bit worried that all this rain will make the river current stronger. I went for a practice swim last night in really heavy rain - was quite strange. And yes, I did get wet

Well done PK. There are a couple of reprobates around here who have been known to slack off open water swimming because it was raining.
