You can come down and do ours too then - it's only a short drive for an 8 minute effort :-

I appear to have got a Ride46 place. That means I'll have to do some cycling. Gulp.

New 1500m PB is 4:27.16 😀 Windy back straight and off the back first couple of laps as pace was hot, passed a few on last two laps.. Club coach took splits and I was pretty much 71s all the way.
There may be more to come off on a still day, but that was everything I had today so happy.

Here’s a question for you, Young 'Un (and the PoD too, please).
My lad has been chosen to run 1500 for the school and has about 3½ weeks to train. What sort of distance / intervals / periodisation should we be looking at?
I realise it’s a bit late for specific focussed training for this event, but he’s showing some promise so I’m looking for an idea of longer-term training sessions to set him up for the future.
Fankee kindly.

Thanks Angus
Gobi coaches MD and has experience with young athletes I think(?) so will be able to give proper training advice.
This is generally what I do/ where I'm at.
I haven't really done any specific 1500m work, as it's the last thing I'd add and fitness, etc has meant I haven't got to the point of adding it consistently.
I do 3 general/ easy runs 6-7 miles, a progressive run 6-7 miles, a pure speed session (usually 10 X 10 sec hill sprints), and a long run 9-11 miles. That's my general winter.
Long run is being replaced by faster sessions now (assuming legs are happy), starting with rhythm type stuff, eg 12 X 200 @1500, with 200 job in circa 45. Later hopefully, things like 3 X 3 X 300, @ 800/1500 1-2 mins between reps, 5 between sets. 4 X 2 x 400 with a similar setup. Will always do around 6 sprints before track as well, usually 4 less than 100m for pure speed, 2 150+ for speed endurance.
Adding speed endurance to pure speed hill reps as well now so instead of 10 X 10 secs, 4-6 X 10 sec plus 1-2 20 secs.
I think working on pure speed and endurance is the starting blocks and hopefully you bring them together with specific work later in the year.

Blimey. And I thought swimmers were number-mad.
Morning all.
