Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Yep I just don't have enough time to warm up properly! Good that yours was quicker at least this week.

I'm not arriving in time for a proper warm up and it's still too cold for that, lol. Will need to sort that for the summer as 1500 pace needs a proper warm up.

I'm thinking of doing a 5000 pace alternation session next week so hope it's a little warmer.

Yes 'Fools Spring' - sudden cold.

What annoys me is all the extra stuff you have to cart about in Winter. In summer just my 'over shorts' and a t shirt to put on. So much easier.

I actually don't end up with more stuff. I always run to track in tights and in the winter they stay on instead of changing down to shorts. Windproof jacket is always in the bag and have a different top for the session. I used to take a warmer jacket but limited warm up means I don't need that anymore.

I was going to the track via work so always a logistical nightmare rather than just running down there.

Train from St Pancras to Luton Airport parkway, walk up massive hill to the track, do session at 6pm - peg it back to Luton station to get the 19.08 bus back to Leighton Buzzard. Honestly that's a nightmare warm down with a heavy bag - at least it's downhill!!

5 x (400/300/200) off 60 with 2 mins. Not tooo bad - (71/69/68/67/66) / (52/51/51/51/51) /(33/35/32/32/32) with spikes.

Local league has reduced fixtures this year and introduced a £6 per event charge.

Can't see clubs subsidising that, and previously the league entry fee was £2 flat fee for up to 3 events or 4 events depending on age. Can't see the league lasting much longer :-(

@LBAC Si I'm lucky that I can run there from home. Would be a nightmare going from work. Nice work on the session.

@larkim how come the league cost isn't picked up by member clubs? There's no cost for racing for the club here even though there are costs to actually entering (eg Road Relays, XC including champs and track league).

I don't know SPR - it always has been in the past, but I do know clubs have been complaining about the rising costs of hosting the league matches; first aid cover, track hire fees, PA systems, etc etc. TBH I posted mainly to hear if other regional leagues charged on a per athlete basis too.

I just can't see how a club could afford to cover say 20-30 youngsters taking part in events at £6 each (or £20 for the quadrathlon for U11s) 4 times a year, when they are trying to maximise attendance. It's OK for selective events like road relays etc where maybe only your best 10 out of the club might make up the team.

I did wonder if behind the scenes the clubs and the county AA are working on some sort of rebate option; the new setup allows a "priority window" for participating clubs to make their entries, then thereafter any individual from any club can make an individual entry too. If the "priority" entries bring in a notionally large amount of cash, over and above the costs of hosting the league matches, then perhaps that will get recycled back, with fees paid by individuals being some "icing on the cake".

Here's the finance section of the MCAA T&F League constitution.

7. FINANCE

a) All funds relating to the operation of the League shall be maintained within the accounts of the MCAA with appropriate records being maintained by the Association’s Honorary Treasurer. Such funds will be identifiable within the Association’s accounts and include provision for balances to be carried forward.

b) Clubs shall be required to pay an annual entry fee to the League, payable by the 31st March in the year of competition. The amount (raised to £550 AGM 2023) and any additional fee due for late payment (currently £25), will be determined by the League Management Committee in conjunction with the MCAA Management Committee. The reimbursement for hosting a match will be £800 (AGM 2023) Any club that

hosts 2 meetings (so that 4 meetings can go ahead in the season) should have the cost of the last meeting (minus the host reimbursement) divided between the other clubs, who have not hosted during that season, in that Division (AGM

2019). Hosts who provide EDM equipment will be reimbursed an additional £50 (AGM 2023). Hosts who provide wind gauges will be reimbursed an additional £25 per wind gauge up to two wind gauges unless a wind gauge’s costs have already been included within a photo-finish
arrangement (AGM 2023).
c) For the technical events match, clubs who have participating athletes will be asked to contribute to the cost of the match on a pro rate basis based on the number of athletes from their club that participate. (Note: in 2023 the cost per athlete was £5, for 2024 the cost per athlete is expected to be around £6.)
d) It shall be within the aims of the League to obtain sponsorship, either on a regional basis for the whole League or on a local basis for individual matches, but any such local sponsors shall have the approval of the League's lManagement Committee and any residue funds shall be retained to meet the day to day running costs of the Association.
e) Where photo-finish is used the cost will be split across the clubs attending that match. Note: for the technical match this is included in the per athlete cost. (AGM 2022).

That's pretty clear and comprehensive. I'm doubting that Cheshire will have the same level of detail!!
