Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Yes good work @SPR Always difficult to make a decision like that in the spur of the moment.

I did the same in the V45 worlds 1500m final in Malaga. As the final was Sunday 11am after a 4pm Saturday heat I thought i'd just sit in - low and behold the 2.03 800M guy came through in the last 200 and won it. I was strong at the time, I should have just gone hard from the off. I came 5th.

Hey ho!

Thanks both. It was almost the way the race was set up. I was on the outside so easy thing was to go to the back especially as indoors you're starting into the bend, but the slowest racer was in front of me and I needed to go as soon as he lost a step to stay with the pack but I didn't have that pace feel that you have once you've done a few.

@LBAC Si your one's a tough one as just fast enough and the 800 runner might not have the kick but you don't want to have to do the work to speed it up as then you lose out. Won a 5000 last year from a pack of 5 where I sat on and had the best kick even though there were others with faster 15 and 8 speed in the race. I certainly did the least work in terms of leading and moving around in the race.

Indeed, I wish I was faster so I could get into more races where tactics play a role.

20 x 400 with 60 secs recovery last night, was supposed to alternate 5k/10k pace. Wasn't feeling great the last couple of days but after warming up with the first 6 reps (84 first, then 78-80) got into alternating the pace although more like ~3k/5k as it was 76/80 up to the last two where I ran 72/75. Pleased with that. Watch training effect and recovery says it's the hardest session I've done since been back (first full club session), obviously that might have been disproportionately affected by the last two reps but nice to be able to finish the session like that.

Good effort @SPR 20 X 400 is a classic, can usually stay around 70/71's, luckily not done it for a while LOL

Not sure I've managed the MD 10 x 400 in 70 yet. End up splitting it into 2 x 5.

Today did 5 x 1000 with 3 mins (200 walk) recovery. Was a tough one and reminded me warms up work. I've not really being warming up for winter sessions other than the 2.5 mile run there but when you want to get down to race paces (especially when not feeling great), it's very necessary.

3:29(!), 3:20, 3:17, 3:22, 3:15.

Mad to think I aced 5 x 1000 with 75 secs recovery at 16:15 pace last summer!

Did 4 x 80m after.

Solid that @SPR And never look back it will kill you ;)

6 x 1500 last night on our square paths course (750m loop) 5.01, then 4.58's and 4.55 to finish. Felt a bit tired, need to get closer to 4.50's, 16.00 5k pace.

I had my excuses lined up (winter, the injuries after the summer, lack of warm up, etc) so it's fine @LBAC Si 😉. Rep 1 was a shocker and on rep 2 yesterday I was thinking I'm too old for this and wondered whether I should only do 4 but it got better 🤣.

Tough session yours off 90 recovery? 6 big volume. Sure you'll be faster when in warms up and you're on track.
